Deadline reports that Sin City director Robert Rodriguez has signed on to direct a live-action adaptation of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon Jonny Quest for Warner Bros.
Though Jonny Quest originally ran for only one season, it has lived on in reruns, comics, and several updated iterations of the cartoon. Although Jonny Quest didn't originate in comics, it was created by comics veteran Doug Wildey, and received several comic spin-off series.
While no casting has been announced, in 2009 Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson said in a Moviehole interview that he and Zak Efron had been cast to play Race Bannon and Jonny Quest, respectively. An earlier attempt to do a live-action Jonny Quest movie was announced in 1995 with Superman director Richard Donner, but was never greenlit.
While comic fans may best know Rodriguez for his ultra-violent Sin City films, he has a long history with family adventure films having created and directed the Spy Kids franchise.
