The Wrap is reporting that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have a short list of five actors in contention to play Spider-Man in the upcoming rebooted movie franchise. According to their reports, the actors are Nat Wolff, Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet and Liam James, although The Wrap leaves open the chance others might also be in consideration.
The Wrap relays that Sony is expected to make brief "test" offers to several actors next week, with a decision expected sometime in May. It's been rumored that the new Spider-Man would debut in the 2016 Captain America: Civil War, and filming on that begins in June.
The actors listed by The Wrap are all younger than the previous actors were during their time as Spider-Man, something that goes in line with previous comments by Marvel Studios' President Kevin Feige about focusing more on Peter Parker's high school years.
Spider-Man is scheduled to be released July 28, 2017.
