He's... "Kind of a big deal," to quote one of his characters.
In a recent chat with Collider, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige revealed that the studio is courting writer/director Adam McKay to head up one of their phase three films. Which one? Well, Marvel seems to be keen to give him his pick.
McKay, best known as the director of Anchorman and Talladega Nights, and as co-founder of Funny Or Die, became involved with Marvel when he and Ant-Man star Paul Rudd worked on a draft of the Ant-Man script after original director Edgar Wright's departure.
Regarding McKay, Feige had this to say, perhaps with a touch of hyperbole: “Adam McKay is in the running for everything. Adam McKay is a great, great writer and director. He did an amazing pass on the Ant-Man draft with Paul Rudd for us, and I didn’t know him before then. And we got to know him through that and liked him very much, and have met with him a number of times trying to find something else, so we’ve talked about a lot of characters with him."
Four phase three films have yet to sign directors - Thor: Ragnarok, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, and Inhumans. McKay is currently filming the comedic drama The Big Short.
