One of the taglines for the recent Lego Movie was that "Everything is awesome!" and now there's a game that looks to try to bring almost everything into one game.
LEGO announced a new game entitled LEGO Dimensions, in partnership with TT Games and Warner Brothers Interactive. The game, which will combine a video game experience with hands-on play, allows players to mix and match characters and settings from diverse franchices such as DC Comics, Lord of the Rings, Back to the Future, The Wizard of Oz and more in a single game. The game is akin to the recent Disney Infinity and Skylanders video games, with collectibles figures used to unlock playable figures.
“When kids play with LEGO bricks, they build beyond the singular brands, intermixing all of their favorite characters and universes, and we have come up with a way for players to experience that in games,” said Jon Burton, Founder and Creative Director, TT Games. “Now for the first time in a videogame, LEGO fans can play in the virtual world and in the real world – combining everything without restrictions. Imagine putting LEGO Gollum from The Lord of the Rings behind the wheel of the LEGO Delorean in New Ninjago City - the creative play is endless.”
LEGO Dimensions will be available September 27 on XBox One, XBox 360, Playstation 4, and Playstation 3. The initial starter kit includes the video game, the LEGO Toy Pad, which allows players to bring special LEGO minifigures and other LEGO objects into the game, bricks to build the LEGO Gateway, and three minifigs including LEGO Batman, LEGO Gandalf, and Wyldstyle from the LEGO Movie.
