According to Empire, actor Ben Hardy has been confirmed as Angel in X-Men: Apocalypse by director Bryan Singer. Speaking to the UK mag, Singer had this to say, “Ben Hardy is Angel – I shall confirm it for you! But he’s not a very nice Angel! And that’s all I’ll say…”
This ends speculation as to Hardy's role. Images available with the announcement showed Angel with metallic wings, as in those given to the character by Apocalypse himself, which leads to speculation that the character will be or become the villainous Archangel in the film. But asusming he's Archangel, the question remains, who is Archangel?
Ben Foster starred as a teenage Warren Worthington (the comic books' Archangel) in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand. But as Apocalypse is set in the 80s and Singer has recast younger versions of Nightcrawler, Storm, Cyclops and Jean Gray, Worthington may not fit in the timeline.
X-Men: Apocalypse is set for a May 19, 2016 release, and also stars Michael Fassbender as Magneto, James McAvoy as Professor X, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler and Lana Condo as Jubilee. Evan Peters (Quicksilver), Channing Tatum (Gambit) and Hugh Jackman (do you have to ask?) are also expected to appear.
