Just days before the 2015 MegaCon convention in Orlando, Florida, The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that the regional convention has been sold to an international event organizer, Informa PLC.

Long-time MegaCon director Beth Widera, who has owned and operated the convention since 2003, tells The Orlando Sentinel that she will remain onboard as the convention's Executive Director. MegaCon was founded in 1993, and was briefly owned by now-defunct CrossGen Entertainment from 1999 to 2003. Widera purchased MegaCon from CrossGen as that company began to falter, and worked as owner/operator as the convention expanded. In 2014, attendance for MegaCon broke its owna attendance records with over 80,000 people in attendance according to Widera.

Informa PLC is a major European event/media company based in Switzerland with offices worldwide. In 2013, Informa entered the North American convention market by purchasing Hobby Star Marketing, parent company of Toronto's Fan Expo Canada, Toronto Comicon, Fan Expo Regin, and the newly launched Dallas Comic Con.
