It looks like Hollywood is delving behind the curtain to tap into the comics pros behind some of the recent superhero success stories.
Deadline reports that comic writers Kelly Sue DeConnick and Matt Fraction have signed a two-year deal with Universal TV to adapt their creator-owned series as well as new original concepts. One of the first projects will reportedly be an adaptation of Sex Criminals by Fraction and Chip Zdarsky.
“We’re always excited to usher in fresh voices to the television space, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with Matt and Kelly Sue, a fantastic pair whose award-winning comics are as deeply realized as they are entertaining,” say Universal TV EVP Bela Bajaria.
Build under the previously used business name of Milkfed Criminal Masterminds, Fraction and DeConnick's new production company is described by Deadline as a "TV Launchpad" for not only these two creators projects but other comic creators as well. Former Marvel editor Lauren Sankovitch has been hired as Managing Editor.
