Just when he thought he was out, he was pulled back in.
After previous saying that he wasn't in the plans for any upcoming X-Men movies, Patrick Strewart has gone on record saying he's in talks to reprise his role as Professor Charles Xavier once more -- but not where you might think.
“I understand that it seems to be very unlikely that I will be in the next X-Men movie, which is almost getting ready to start shooting in Montreal,” Stewart said according to Oregon Live, referring to X-Men: Apocalypse. "What I'm very excited about is that we have been talking about a Wolverine movie, which would team Hugh Jackman and myself together.”
A third Wolverine movie has been talked about on several occasions since the release of The Wolverine in 2013, but this would be the first concrete mention by someone involved in the franchise that Xavier would be a part of it.
"Wolverine and Professor Xavier. That would be a very different sort of X-Men from the four movies that I've already done," sais Stewart.
This third, as-yet untitled Wolverine movie has already been announced for a March 3, 2017 release date. Reportedly, The Wolverine director James Mangold will return to the franchise, with screenwriter David James Kelly coming in to write the screenplay. This would be in addition to X-Men: Apocalypse, Deadpool and Gambit movies that have also been announced.
