Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?
DC has promised that Wednesday's Superman #38 will feature the Man of Steel endowed with a new costume and a new power, and Geoff Johns is talking about those additions in an interview with USA Today. While Johns doesn't spell out what the new power is exactly (and nor does USA Today's Brian Truitt ask), the visuals from John Romita Jr. and Johns brief words on it do point to something powerful.
"It's definitely the most destructive power Superman has," says Johns. "And he's not exactly excited about it because it is so dangerous and there are consequences."
Johns says that the power will be unveiled in the finale to Superman #38, calling it "very unstable" and something "Superman's going to have to deal with for quite a while."
Between the new power, the new costume and the new mindset Johns says Superman #38 will bring, Johns says it'll send the Man of Steel "in ways that we haven't seen in a long, long time."
"[This] just fundamentally has the character asking certain questions he hasn't asked himself and experiencing certain things he hasn't experienced."
