Meet your newest Marvel villain: Yellowjacket.
The cover story to this week's Entertainment Weekly pulled back the curtain on the upcoming Ant-man movie, including two pieces of concept art -- including this first, official look at Yellowjacket. These images, posted online by ComingSoon.net, give us confirmation of earlier leaked artwork featuring the movie's primary villain. Yellowjacket will be the costumed identity of Darren Cross, played by The Strain's Corey Stoll. Here is a bigger look at this, and one other piece of concept art:
In the EW article about Ant-Man, new details about Yellowjacket were revealed. The Yellowjacket suit will be a macguffin of sorts in the movie, as Hank Pym, Hope Van Dyne and Scott Lang plan a heist to steal the suit, which EW describes as "even more advanced" than the Ant-Man suit.
This struggle over technology, and specifically technological "superhero" suits, brings to mind another hero's struggle with that: Iron Man. "The Armor Wars" was a major story-arc in the Iron Man comic series featuring Tony Stark struggling with stolen technology used by others. Overlap in with the fact that in comics Hank Pym created Ultron but for Avengers: Age of Ultron all leaked information describes it as a Stark design, while the visual look of Ultron continues to share some resemblance the Ant-Man suit from the movie.
But getting back to the idea of a heist of the "even more advanced" Yellowjacket suit, what if they successfully obtain that suit? Could Lang join the Avengers at some point, not as Ant-Man, but as Yellowjacket? Remember, while in comics Ant-Man is a founding Avenger, it's the Yellowjacket codename and suit that has more of a tenure in the Avengers than th Ant-Man persona.
