It's going to be good to be Disney and Universal in 2015. The two studios share the Top 4 positions of the top viewed YouTube movie trailers of 2014 (so far), according to figures released by Zefr, a YouTube data and marketing company (as reported by the Hollywood Reporter).
Disney's Star Wars: the Force Awakens and Avengers: Age of Ultron are the #2 and #3 most viewed YouTube trailers of the year so far, respectively. What could beat Star Wars and the Avengers? Universal's Fifty Shades of Grey is the most viewed trailer of the year (in others words, sex still sells), with Jurassic World rounding out the Top 4.
Of course the chart comes with some caveats, most notably the dates the trailers debuted.
Fifty Shades of Grey currently tops the list with 93m views, but was released on July 24. The Force Awakens is on its heels with 81m views, but was released less than a month ago on November 28. Zefr reports the Star Wars sequel is on track to become the most watched YouTube movie trailer ever.
Age of Ultron has amassed 78 million views since October 22, and Jurassic World chalked up 64 million views since November 25.
Previously, Zefr released a chart showing first week trailer views, which probably tells a more accurate story in terms of audience anticipation.
All four films will be released in 2015.
