Longtime Invincible artist Ryan Ottley broke the news late Thursday afternoon that an upcoming issue of the series, #118, would be specially priced for only 25 cents. This issue, scheduled to go on sale March 25 via Image Comics, will reportedly see the titular superhero venture with Atom Eve and their newborn child relocate into space for what the Skybound Comics' imprint calls "the adventure of a lifetime: Parenthood!"
Ottley tells Newsarama that this issue will launch a new arc that sees the family trio moving to a new planet.
"It's a huge change of life for these characters, so it'll be a new direction for all involved," the artist explains. "lso new for me since I get to design more aliens and alien worlds which is always fun."
This issue will also martk a change of pace for the long-running series, after some shipping delays with some issues this year. Ottley tells Newsarama that March's #118 will be the beginning of a new "route" that will see Invincible take breaks between story arcs, similiar to Saga.
"We've done 12 issues a year in the past, but our average is 10 a year. So we are going the route that other comics like Saga are taking, and that is to solicit full story arcs, ship them monthly, then take breaks to catch up and get a lot done to make sure the next arc ships on time," Ottley tells us. "I don't think anyone wants fill-in writers or artists on this book, so this is the very best option!"
