The release of the first Star Wars: The Force Awakens hit with a bang on November 28, and now director J.J. Abrams and LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy has added some key context to the new characters seen for the first time in that trailer. Given to Entertainment Weekly as an exclusive, Disney has released eight stills from the trailer but framed in a design evoking the classic Topps trading characters released in tandem with the original 1977 movie. And best of all, they reveal names of the characters -- including the shadowy figure with the unique lightsaber.
The mysterious saber-wielder is Kylo Den, although details on whom he or she is played by remain unknown. The X-Wing pilot played by Oscar Isaac has been given the name Poe Dameron, while the apparent Stormtrooper played by John Boyega is dubbed Finn. The enterprising sand-speeder pilot played by Daisy Ridley is named Rey, and completing the reveals in this release is the name of the cute ball droid: BB-8.
