Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s second season has been full of surprises, both in stories as well as guest stars. After earlier appearances by the former Xena Lucy Lawless and former Wonder Woman Adrianna Palicki, The Hollywood Reporter has news that veteran TV actor Blair Underwood is joining the cast. The former LA Law actor will reportedly play a new character named Dr. Andrew Garner, the “estranged” ex-husband of Melinda May, played by Ming-Na Wen.
Best known for crime-centric television drama, Underwood recently starred in The Event and the short-lived revamp of Ironside, but is best known for his Golden Globe winning performance on LA Law. Although this would be Underwood’s first role in a comic-book based live action series, the Tacoma-born actor has done voices for DC Nation Shorts, including Black Lightning and a alternate universe Superman.
According to THR, Underwood joined the production this week for the filming of an episode to debut in March.
