Wonder Woman reportedly has her director, and it’s another wonder woman - Michelle MacLaren. Previously rumored to be circling the project, THR now reports that MacLaren has signed with Warner Bros. to develop and direct the Wonder Woman feature film, starring Gal Gadot.
The movie has a June 23, 2017 release date, and is being produced by Charles Roven, Zack Snyder, and Deborah Snyder. MacLaren has both comic book and mythological genre roots in recent years. She directed three episodes of The Walking Dead and four of Game of Thrones, and was a co-executive producer on The X-Files. There is no word on whether any of the myriad Wonder Woman scripts that have been commissioned by WB over the last couple of years will be used, partially or in full, or if MacLaren will work with a new writer or writing team to develop the film from the ground up. One rumor surfaced in October that the film would be a period piece, but Warner Bros never commented on it.
