Rumor has it, Jena Malone is in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice… as Carrie Kelley, the female Robin from Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns.
That’s what Variety is saying, lending some weight to a report from a Detroit news station who reported from the set at Michigan State University, where the film is shooting scenes featuring college students as extras. The venerable Hollywood trade notes that this is just a rumor and that Warner Bros declined to comment, but the grand old daddy of Hollywood reporting on it still will turn some heads.
They note as well that the extra who spoke to WILX News could be facing some hefty fines - up to $5 million dollars, for breaking an on-set NDA. That’s a lot of Stafford Loans.
The only thing known for sure is that Malone was seen on the set, and she’s rocking some red locks right now, fitting the extremely loose requirement of playing Carrie Kelley in the movie - she’s physically present, and a red headed female. The Batman costume seen in promotional materials for Batman V Superman bears more than a passing resemblance to the one designed by Frank Miller for the same comic Kelley first appears in, though. Further, at Comic-Con International: San Diego in July 2014, a clip was shown featuring an armored Batsuit that also heavily borrowed from Miller’s work. A passage from the comic was used when first announcing that the characters would share screen time, and it has been publicly talked about as an influence, at least stylistically, by Zack Snyder and other involved in the production. The character of Carrie Kelley was also recently introduced in the New 52 continuity of the comic books, though she has yet to don the identity of Robin outside of a costume party.
