Deadline reports today that veteran actor Victor Garber has been cast as the second half of the DC superhero Firestorm for the television series The Flash. Garber will play Dr. Martin Stein, who Deadline describes as a “brilliant but arrogant” nuclear physicist that Deadline says will be fused with the previously cast Ronnie Raymond (played by Robbie Amell).

In comics, Dr. Martin Stein and Ronnie Raymond were the first and most popular Firestorm combination, after being a caught in a nuclear accident which fused them together. In this original itteration, Raymond was in active control of Firestorm and Stein, for a time, was unaware of it except for being concerned about his occasional blackouts. Their Odd Couple-like bickering was a well-known part of what made Firestorm work, but it remains to be seen if any of this will be duplicated in The Flash.

Garber is perhaps best known to Newsarama audiences for his Emmy-nominated work as Jack Bristow in the J.J. Abrams television series Alias. The casting of Garber in The Flash also reveals a superhero version of the “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” game, as Garber recently starred in Argo alongside Ben Affleck, who is playing Batman in Superman v Batman: Dawn of Justice. Garber isn’t new to the superhero genre, as he voiced Sinestro in the animated Green Lantern: First Flight film and played “Daddy” Warbucks in a 1999 adaptation of Annie.
