Green Lantern/New Gods: Godhead kicks off in October, but with the "Futures End" month of September inbetween now and then, DC Comics opted to reveal some of the new looks of the New Gods at the end of August.
In the back of this week's comics, DC revealed artist Pete Woods' sketches for familiar faces like Metron and Lightray, as well as a few lesser-known New Gods. The crossover promises to reveal the New Gods in earnest, after a few Apokoliptian teases and a couple of guest stars in books like Wonder Woman and Earth 2 (and now in Futures End).
Created by Jack Kirby, the New Gods have taken on an even bigger importance in the New 52 than ever before in the DC Universe. It was revealed at Comic-Con International: San Diego in July that the New Gods and their Apokolips counterparts exist outside of the Multiverse - and thus, on all Earths at once. There's only one Lightray, only one Darkseid, etc., and that gives them a very unique take on the Multiverse and the events to come in the DC Universe.
