Superman’s flying high with the most expensive comic ever sold. A CGC-rated 9.0 unrestored copy of Action Comics #1 sold on eBay over the weekend for $3,207,852, beating a previous copy of the same comic that sold for $2.16 million. The Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster creation features the first appearance of Superman and Lois Lane.

Darren Adams sold the comic, himself a comic shop owner. His copy is one of only seven that CGC has rated over a 6.0. His comic shop is appropriately named Pristine Comics. The auction is also notable for being run privately and on eBay, rather than through a custom marketplace like - who, interestingly enough, bought this copy (and sold Nicholas Cage’s - the previous record holder) or Heritage Auctions, who has a handful of million dollar successes themselves.

Adams included a video in his eBay auction, showing off the perfect white pages of the “Newstand quality” comic, which sold originally for 10 cents.
