Earlier today via press release, Marvel Studios formally announced the start of principal photography for next year’s Ant-Man in San Francisco, California. The film, slated for release on July 17, 2015, also has some new cast-members announced as part of the press release; although their roles have yet to be revealed, one casting has an obvious role in mind and a tie to Marvel’s Iron Man movie franchise.
Mad Men’s John Slattery will be rejoining the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Ant-Man; in 2010, Slattery played Howard Stark, Tony Stark’s father, so presumably this could mean Slattery reprising that same role in a flashback scene, as the character is said to be dead in current MCU continuity. Of course he could be playing someone else.
Additional new cast-members joining with Slattery for Ant-Man are Arrested Development’s Judy Greer and The Wire’s Wood Harris.
After filming in San Francisco is complete, the Ant-Man production will reportedly relocate to Atlanta, Georgia, to film the remainder of the film.
