Revealed exclusively to The Hollywood Reporter, 84-year old Marvel/Spider-Man comic book legend John Romita Sr. has drawn a variant cover to this month's Superman #34, written by Geoff Johns and of course illustrated by second generation comic book legend John Romita Jr, who illustrates the issues main cover.
JRSr. tells THR he drew many romance comic covers for DC between 1958 and 1965, but this is the first time he's ever drawn Superman on a comic book cover.
“I’ve done a few sketches when we used to do crossovers, and a couple of paperback covers that had Superman on them, and I’ve done Superman on sketches for kids on conventions," he explained. "DC called me and asked me if I would be interested in doing a variant cover, and I told them as long as it wasn’t a crowd scene, I’d try it.”
Superman #34 - on sale Aug. 27 - also features the debut of new Superman villain the Machinist, designed by JRJr. and that debut image can also be seen the this preview.
