Brandon Routh is a DC Comics superhero once more. That’s the report from TV Line, as Routh has been cast as a new supporting character on Arrow.
The CW hit has become the center of a new DC TV Universe, with characters like Deathstroke, Black Canary, Nyssa al Ghul, Deadshot, and even Harley Quinn teased, and The Flash receiving his own spin-off. Katana was cast just last week (Devon Aoki will wield a sword once more for that role), and now Ray Palmer joins the world.
Routh’s role as Ray Palmer, aka The Atom, is a recurring third season role, and will see Palmer as the new owner of Queen Consolidated - with big plans for the Applied Sciences Division. Dr. Palmer, in the comics, develops a belt that lets him alter his (and others’) size and become the superhero The Atom, eventually joining the Justice League.
Of course, Routh also played Superman in Superman Returns, a movie which (mostly) carried on the continuity established by the 70s/80s film franchise. He has also appeared in comic-based movies Dylan Dog and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
