Husband and wife team Meredith Finch and David Finch are taking over Wonder Woman in November’s #36, as previously rumored months ago, with Meredith writing and David providing art. The duo will be the first new creative team on the series since the launch of the New 52. Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang (with a handful of fill-ins) have been the ongoing creative team for all of the first three years of the series.
In an announcement interview with USAToday.com’s Brian Truitt, the writer and artist said that they’ll be shifting focus a bit, moving away from Diana’s relationships with her godly family and more to the relationship she has with the Amazons and the Justice League. “We wanted to make her a little more flawed,” said artist David Finch, “She doesn’t always necessarily have the answers.
Meredith, meanwhile, says she’s drawn inspiration for her take on the character from the 1970s Wonder Woman TV show, which she said inspired her, having a woman saving the day. “She lives what she believes, and she acts on it,” said the writer, saying that’s something she hopes to portray in the comic.
”"That's one aspect of being a female writer I can bring to her. Women tend to react in a different way, and I can bring some of that reactionary (thinking), going from your heart sometimes more than from your head,'' Meredith said, adding that the couple will “be able to bring that balance so she’s a really complex character as we go forward.”
