While Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo are currently in the midst of the epic year-long “Zero Year” story arc in DC's main Batman title telling the New 52 origin of the Dark Knight (i.e. Bruce Wayne's first experiences as a vigilante and transformation into the costumed superhero), the publisher is going even farther back in Bruce Wayne's life in the second issue of their new anthology series Secret Origins.
May 2014's 48-page Secret Origins #2 will feature three new New 52 origin tales, including Aquaman by Jeff Parker, Starfire by Scott Lobdell, and Batman by Ray Fawkes. According to DC, artwork will be done by Paul Pelletier, Sean Parsons, Paulo Siqueira, and others (although DC didn't specify which artist was drawing what story). And going by the Lee Bermejo cover image DC has provided Newsarama, it appears as if the story will be set during Bruce's childhood and encompass his parents' murder in Crime Alley.
It will be interesting to note how closely Fawkes' new story will coordinate with Snyder and Capullo's next "Zero Year" chapter in March's Batman #29, which Snyder revealed to Newsarama will feature "the Crime Alley moments ."
It will also be interesting to watch what - if any - similarly the new version of the familiar story will have to Fox's upcoming drama Gotham , which will go straight to series this fall and focuses on a young Jim Gordon and a ‘tween’ Bruce Wayne. The pilot reportedly kicks off with the Waynes' murder and Gordon being assigned to the case.
