The list of villains in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the solo follow-up in Phase 2 of Marvel Studios' cinematic universe, continues to grow. Toby Jones, who played a decidedly human scientist Arnim Zola in Captain America: The First Avenger confirmed in an interview with ComingSoon.net that he'll be returning for the sequel, and teased how.
Of course, that raises a few questions. After all, in the first movie, he was, as noted, human, and that took place in World War II. And that means, as Jones teases, we'll likely be seeing him in his more recognizable look as essentially a television screen in a robot body.
"All I can say about it is that I was pleased to be brought back," Jones told ComingSoon. "I thought I might be--because you'd know better than I do--but Zola finds a way to defeat time and you won't be disappointed with the way that's been treated in the film, that's what I would say."
Arnim Zola has been the feature villain for the entire first year arc of the Marvel NOW! relaunch of the Captain America comic book from writer Rick Remender and artist John Romita, Jr. In the series, he pulls Captain America into his own dimension, where Cap spends years with a boy he comes to think of as his son - but is in fact Zola's.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier already features Crossbones, Batroc the Leaper, and Robert Redford's Agent Alexander Pierce as villains, as well as Black Widow, Agent 13, and Falcon joining Captain America in his quest to save the Winter Soldier from his brainwashing.
The movie is filming now, and due for an April 4, 2014 release.
