Redford Confirms CAPTAIN AMERICA Role; More Movie News

Veteran actor Robert Redford has not only confirmed his involvement in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier in recent days, but clarified his role, as reported Tuesday by Spinoff Online.

Redford was initially reported to be playing a character with a "senior leadership role in S.H.I.E.L.D.," but told Spinoff Online that he's playing "the head of S.H.I.E.L.D." Exactly who that might be, and what that means for current Marvel Cinematic Universe director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson in multiple Marvel Studios productions including The Winter Soldier, remains to be seen.

Last week, Redford told the Los Angeles Times, "I'm doing this film because it's different. It's a new thing for me... I think these films are really powerful. I think they're great. This is the kind of film I would have loved to see as a kid."

Tuesday's release of the "Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One" box set brought new concept art from upcoming Marvel Studios productions, including a peek at how the Winter Soldier might look in next year's Captain America sequel. Image courtesy of GeekZenith.

Additionally, ComicBookMovie has a look at behind-the-scenes Thor: The Dark World footage, also from the box set, in gif form.

Speaking of upcoming Marvel Studios productions — the Avengers sequel, slated for 2015, will start production in early 2014 at the Pinewood-Shepperton studio in England, according to Screen Daily. This year's was shot there, and is scheduled to be, as well.
