Video game movies don't have the best track record, but that isn't stopping Ubisoft Motion Pictures, the film and TV division of the game publisher, from moving forward and seeking to change peoples' minds with a live-action film based on the Assassin's Creed series. With Michael Fassbender already attached to star in the film, today Ubisoft announced a partnership with New Regency, a "talent- and filmmaker-driven company with the same independent and creative mindset," said Jean-Julien Baronnet, chief executive officer of Ubisoft Motion Pictures in a press release. The partnership includes production and distribution for the film, which is moving forward with "immediate" screenplay development. The Assassin's Creed film is the latest branch-out of the series. With four console titles and a fifth on the way October 30, 2012, plus multiple mobile and portable games, the franchise has also seen two comic book series, multiple action figures, apparel, a series of live-action shorts, and an animated short film. No timeframe for the film was given. Got a comment? There's lots of conversation on Newsarama's FACEBOOK and TWITTER!
