Press Release
Adult Swim today announced it will expand its popular late-night programming by having it begin every day at 10 p.m. The new schedule will begin airing in January 2009. Since becoming an individually-rated network in the second quarter of 2005, the network has ranked #1 in total day delivery of adults 18-24 and men 18-24 for 14 consecutive quarters. Additionally, Adult Swim has ranked #1 with men 18-34 for 12 of the last 14 quarters.
To launch the new hour of programming, Adult Swim has reached a multi-year licensing agreement with Twentieth Television to air the Emmy® Award-winning animated series King of the Hill. Starting in January, King of the Hill will kick off Adult Swim every night at 10 p.m.
“Adult Swim has been a consistent ratings winner,” said Stuart Snyder, president and chief operating officer of Turner Broadcasting’s Animation, Young Adults and Kids Media group. “By expanding the network with exciting new programming, which speaks directly to our audience, Adult Swim and AdultSwim.com can continue to grow and be the dominant brand with men 18-34.”
“With King of the Hill joining Family Guy in our Adult Swim lineup we
now have two of the greatest animated series ever made,” said Mike
Lazzo, senior vice president of programming and production for Adult
Swim.
Adult Swim debuted in Sept. 2001 with just three hours of programming
airing two nights a week. In January 2003, fueled by popularity and
impressive ratings gains, Adult Swim’s schedule increased to five
nights per week, Sunday – Thursday, 11 p.m. – 2 a.m. (ET/PT). By March
2005, the late-night block more than doubled its air time, jumping from
15 hours to 42 hours a week, airing Monday – Thursday, Saturday and
Sunday, 11 p.m. – 6 a.m. (ET/PT). In July of 2007, Adult Swim expanded
to seven nights per week, airing Monday – Saturday, 11 p.m. – 6 a.m.
(ET/ PT) and Sundays at 10 p.m. – 6 a.m. (ET/PT).
Now in its twelfth season on FOX, King of the Hill depicts the life and times of Hank Hill (Mike Judge), his family and their neighbors in the fictional suburb of Arlen, Texas, the heartland of America. Mike Judge and Greg Daniels are co-creators/executive producers and Michael Rotenberg, Howard Klein, John Altschuler, Dave Krinsky, Jim Dauterive and Garland Testa are executive producers for the 1999 Emmy Award Winner for Outstanding Animated Program. King of the Hill, which is produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television in association with Deedle-Dee Productions, Judgemental Films and 3 Arts Entertainment, is distributed by Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution.
Adult Swim (AdultSwim.com), launched in 2001, is Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.’s network offering original and acquired animated and live action series for young adults. Airing overnight 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday (ET/PT), Adult Swim shares channel space with Cartoon Network, home to the best in classic, original and acquired programming, seen in 97 million U.S. homes.
