Joe Fridays, the Marvel Editor-in-Chief told readers to expect not one, but two new X-related projects coming from outgoing Uncanny X-Men writer Chris Claremont, and Thursday Marvel confirmed for Newsarama the identity of both.
The first is a new limited series based on the winner of the Marvel.com poll asking fans what project they’d like to see Claremont writer next. Then called “neXt” and described as “following the adventures of today's generation of X-Men if the Marvel Universe aged in real-time!”, the five-issue limited series is now called Genext and Marvel sent us this early look at the solicitation copy for June’s issue #1.
Marvel also sent us a very early draft of the first issue’s cover, along with some sketches whose filenames should be enough to start generating some speculation about the series…
GENEXT #1 (OF 5)
Written by CHRIS CLAREMONT
Penciled by PATRICK SCHERBERGER
Cover by DOUG ALEXANDER
Who are the children of the X-Men? And what happened to the original team, Professor X and Magneto after over 30 years of conflict, victories, and tragedies? Chris Claremont answers all in the Fan’s choice from Marvel.com’s “Claremont’s Next X-Men Project” poll.
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99
Claremont’s second X-related project comes as somewhat more of a surprise, as Marvel has informed Newsarama that he will take over as regular writer of the ongoing series Exiles, joining penciler Paul Pelletier as the regular creative team with July’s issue #84.
And on yeah, as the accompanying early cover image shows, Claremont’s bringing the “616” version of one of his favorite characters to the series with him.
Look for more on this news tomorrow in Joe Fridays, in our weekend New York Comic-Con coverage, and an upcoming interview with Chris Claremont.
