According to Variety, next year’s Terminator: Salvation won’t be the final outing for the killer robots from the future. Latest trailer here.

Announced at the Dubai International Film Festival over the weekend, Halcyon Co.’s Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek along with Salvation director McG are developing a fifth film to follow Salvation. Anderson and Kubicek are eyeing the rebooted franchise as a trilogy, and Christian Bale has signed to play John Connor in all three films. The fifth, yet untitled Terminator movie is tentatively scheduled for a 2011 release.

Salvation is set in 2018, with Connor leading the human resistance against the Skynet robots in the Judgement Day War that was predicted in the original 1984 film.

As Variety reports, the decision to move ahead with a fifth film in the franchise was made earlier than planned due to the positive response from the studio (Warner Bros.), media and fans to footage from the film.

Terminator: Salvation is due in theaters May 22nd, 2009.
