According to The Hollywood Reporter David Gordon Green, who directed this summer’s acclaimed Pineapple Express has been signed by Overture Films to direct the film version of Freaks of the Heartland, the Dark Horse published miniseries by Steve Niles and Greg Ruth. The screenplay of the adaption is written by Peter Sattler and Geoff Davey.

Green, along with Dark Horse’s Mike Richardson are producing, and Niles will executive produce.

The six issue miniseries told the story of Trevor Owen, who seeks to protect his “monster” of a six-year old younger brother from his parents and the other “freaks” living in Gristlewood Valley, an otherwise idyllic Middle American town.
