According to multiple sources, Oscar-winning special effects artist
Stan Winston died late Sunday evening at his home. Winston was 62 and
had battled multiple myeloma for seven years.
"Stan died peacefully at home surrounded by family," a spokeswoman from Stan Winston Studios told the LA Times.
Perhaps the most acclaimed visual effects artists currently working in Hollywood, Winston won the Oscar for visual effects three times, for Aliens in 1986, Terminator 2: Judgment day in 1992, and Jurassic Park in 1993. Most recently, Winston and his Studio produced the effects for Marvel’s Iron Man.
Some of his final work will be seen in 2009's Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. Winston was the second visual effects artist to be awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
