When Watchmen originally hit theaters, many fans hoped that someday, they would be able to see Zack Snyder’s director’s cut, reported to be longer, and feature the death of a supporting character.

Those fans will get their wish. Well, some of them.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. will release Snyder’s director’s cut the weekend before Comic-Con in Los Angeles, New York, Dallas and Minneapolis. The film is slated to be released on Blu-ray and DVD on July 21st.

Following the release, the director’s cut will be screened July 25th at Comic-Con at an event that is designed to be a BD-Live event, allowing any viewer in North America to watch the film along with the Comic-Con audience, and hear director Zack Snyder’s comments, and even ask questions.

From THR

"Comic-Con, it isn't just comic book fanatics, it's cinephiles as well. It'll be cool to discuss what people are thinking," Snyder said at a Watchmen press day, held Wednesday at Warner Bros., where the news was unveiled. The day was designed to showcase a bonus Blu-ray feature called Maximum Movie Mode as well as features to be seen in Snyder's Blu-ray release of "300: The Complete Experience."

"Warner Bros. is hoping to use the filmmakers of its movies to produce immersive home movie experiences."

"We're lucky to have filmmakers at Warners that believe in that," said Warners vp high-def market expansion Kris Brown.
