From the mutants of the Marvel Universe to Mars.

Wolverine cast members Taylor Kitsch (Gambit) and Lynn Collins (Kayla Silverfox) have both signed on to star in Disney’s John Carter of Mars, a film adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ character. The movie will be the live-action directorial debut of Andrew (Wall*E) Stanton.

Kitsch will play Carter, a Civil War veteran who finds himself inexpicably transported to Mars where he becomes involved in the ongoing war between the races. Collins will play Dejah Thoris, the Princess of Mars – and the subject of the first of Burroughs’ John Carter (or “Barsoom”) stories.

According to Variety, the film will begin filming early next year from a script co-written by Stanton and Mark Andrews.
