Perhaps in the future, we’ll look back at the 24 months of 2010-2011 as the height of superhero and genre films. Or a beginning of a golden age of super heroes translated to film. Or, to offer all possibilities, the period where it all started to go south.

Within those months, moviegoers will see not only Marvel’s Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor  hit the screens, but also film versions of Green Lantern and Jonah Hex as well, not to mention the final Harry Potter films.

Warner Bros. has announced release dates for many of its major genre films over the next two years including: Green Lantern, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Jonah Hex, a new version of Clash of the Titans, and more.

Running things down:

Sherlock Holmes - Directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Iron Man's Robert Downey Jr., the film is now due in theaters on Christmas Day, 2009, bumped from November 13th.

Clash of the Titans - a remake by Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier is due in theaters on March 26th, 2010.

Green Lantern - directed by Martin Campbell, is due in theaters on December 17th, 2010.

Inception - Christopher Nolan’s next film after The Dark Knight due in theaters on July 16th 2010.

Jonah Hex - Josh Brolin and John Malkovich get it on, Western style on August 6th, 2010.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part One on November 19th, 2010, and Part Two now slated for a July 15th, 2011 release.

Blending this with Marvel’s previously announced ambitious release slate of films, the ever-tightening superhero or comic book & genre film schedule looks like this:

Iron Man 2: May 7th, 2010
Green Hornet: June 25th 2010
Twilight: Eclipse
: June 30th, 2010
Thor, Inception: July 16th, 2010
Jonah Hex: August 6th, 2010
Green Lantern: December 17th, 2010
The First Avenger: Captain America: May 6th, 2011
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 2 and The Avengers: July 15th, 2011

Some are already pointing to what looks like a clear showdown in July of 2011 between Warner Bros. and Marvel between the final Harry Potter film and The Avengers, as well as Thor and Inception as a “Marvel vs. DC” style battle between the studios.

Two things are certain at this point – dates will shift and more will be added.
