Doom Patrol #4- SPOILERS!

The Doom Patrol enters Blackest Night!
First we get a three page synopsis of the Doom Patrol and it's rebirth from BL Arani's perspective. For those of you that don't know, there was a second team of DP lead by Arani Desai Caulder ,wife of Niles. Robotman washed up on the shore after the destruction of the island that seemingly killed him, Larry, Rita, and Niles at the end of the first series. The second group composed of Arani/ Celsius, Josh Clay/ Tempest, and Valentina Vostock/ Negative Woman and Cliff/ Robotman once again with a Doc-Magnus rebuilt body. It expanded to Lodestone, Karma (KIA), and Scott Fisher (KIA) before Morrison's more-famous run. Celsius also died during the DP's Invasion! crossover. Tempest died during Morrison's run.

OK, so the ring says rise, and BL's Celsius, Negative Woman ( I didn't remember her dying, I thought she was in Checkmate) and Tempest along with a shadowy form in the back.

The action starts as the group appears with the singularity and Robotman is carted off, and Rita storms over to see Niles about the revelation of Steve Dayton still in her head. She shows rage, and attacked by Tempest, who she doesn't really know. Celsius attacks Niles who the ring sees as Avarice, naturally. Niles wheelchair guns rip into Arani who shrugs it off, kisses Niles whose lips freeze as she kisses him, and also freezes his legs. Then, she shatters his legs!
Meanwhile Larry helps Cliff "download" himself into a new body, and we find out that Cliff is actually a blend of organic brain and Responsometer tech, and Larry mentions he may be immortal. Cliff cuts him off. As they dump yet another Robotman body in a "mass grave"(funny scene with all those destroyed Robotman bodies, as Cliff sort of keeps count how many times he "died"), they are attacked by Negative Woman who sees Larry as Will and some Fear, and Val's BL energy form attacks Cliff then faces off against Larry's negative form. Tempest is about to feast on "the ...biggest...heart..ever", Arani clutches Niles' chest saying "our hearts beat as one." Val moves in to kill Larry's body as Cliff knocks her away, and Cliff looks up to see...HIS OLD BODY as a BL. Interesting side note, no color on him when Val looks at him, but you'd think he has emotion. I guess if his brain really isn't there, the BL's don't "see" him like that.

Metal Men cofeature was silly. Animated mannequins that call themselves the Clique based off Magnus' responsometer tech as well. They were built by Professor Rumpus who just had his university grant pulled. It reminded me of the Old Navy mannequins....lol. One gives Tin the beatdown, and wants to kill him and Magnus and take over the world.

Don't read Doom Patrol, picked it up for the ring.

Surprisingly enjoyable issue. Since Robot Man's well, a robot, he has no heart for the Black Lanterns to take, so he's worthless to them, like other robots and extra-dimensional entities like demons. Being confronted with his brianless original body was an awesome idea. Going after Rita's whale-sized heart is cool, but Tempest can't crush it like other victims. Also surprised Rita was still channeling Rage after being knocked down prety hard. Larry's great - his dialogue's always fun.

I'm going to pick up the next issue too to see how this turns out. Color me curious.

I really enjoyed this one. Like the third issue they started to cut back on how wordy the book was. Geez the second issue was like reading that Cyborg mini again. I love that Robotman's just got a giant pile of his dead bodies. Surprisingly I wasn't too hot for the Metal Men feature, which had been my original reason for getting the book. It was just mediocre.

But all in all a recommendation, it even has some back story for new readers.

Yeah, I was confused by that, too. I checked wiki, and apparently she died during Final Crisis...
