The details
What you can do here:
Debate and discuss comic books, entertainment, and culture with others in the community. At Newsarama, and want to provide a fun, welcoming and inclusive place for all. A diverse group of people read and participate in our community – those of all ages, nationalities, and backgrounds – and we want everyone to feel comfortable here, so please keep that in mind. Above all, please be respectful of each other during your stay.
Self-moderate yourself. Please use common sense when interacting in the community. We trust that you have the good sense to post appropriately and thoughtfully here.
Contribute images, videos, and text under Fair Use. Some work is copyrighted, but Fair Use provision allows you to share small pieces of such work, as long as you attribute it to the author or creator. Please follow this guide when sharing work that is not yours.
Share your own creations. We encourage you to upload your creative work for the community to enjoy. You may also promote your work in areas designated for personal promotion. This does not include SPAM.
Have fun! That’s what the community is for.
What you can’t do here:
For most things, we’ll give you a warning or series of warnings; for some we will not. Consequences are clearly defined below.
Don’t put the smack down on a fellow community member. Because of the passionate nature of our community, we know that it’s easy to get a little hot under the collar during a debate or discussion, and resort to insults, personal attacks or ad hominem arguments. If you get to this point, we ask that you take a step back, take a deep breath, and revisit your response. If you are unable to control yourself, we’ll give you a warning. After three warnings you will be suspended temporarily from Newsarama. If you do it one more time, you will be banned.
Don’t be a hater. While we encourage free expression of ideas here, hate speech crosses the line. Racist, homophobic, and sexist comments are an example of this, and are not welcome on Newsarama. If we believe that you are advocating or posting hate speech, we’ll warn you to stop. If you persist after three warnings, you will be suspended temporarily from Newsarama. If you do it one more time, you will be banned.
Don’t swear or use sexually explicit language. Some profanity is blocked on Newsarama, and resides in our word filter. If you choose to circumvent the word filter, you will receive a warning. If you persist after three warnings, you will be suspended temporarily from Newsarama. If you do it one more time, you will be banned. Posting profanity for profanity’s sake is discouraged as well. Use of sexually explicit language will also meet the same fate.
Don’t troll. Trolls disrupt the community, create unwanted tension, and are unwelcome here. If you are caught trolling, you may receive a warning. If you persist after one to three warnings, you will be suspended temporarily from Newsarama. If you do it one more time, you will be banned.
Don’t share your pornos with us. If you want to read or look at pornography, there are many sites on the web that provide this service. Newsarama is not one of them. We have legal reasons to prohibit it. Contributions containing porn or sexually explicit imagery will be deleted. If you post such things, we’ll give you a warning, but if you get caught doing it again you will be banned.
Don’t steal other people’s work. Fair Use (see above) is acceptable, but going farther than that is not. Please be sensitive to copyrighted material. We reserve the right to delete anything we deem as stepping over the Fair Use line. We’ll give you a warning, but if you continue to post copyrighted material beyond Fair Use, you will be banned.
Don’t be a stalker or creep people out. Life is too short to have to worry about someone targeting you, impersonating you, or making inappropriate advances. We take this issue seriously, and if we learn that you are behaving like a creepy stalker, you will be banned without warning.
Don’t break the law. Uploading content that is illegal or prohibited won’t fly on Newsarama. This includes directions on how to illegally download content, links to illegal downloads, or instructions or advocacy of illegal/prohibited activity. Posts or comments containing this will be immediately deleted and you will be banned without warning. Depending on what it is, we may also contact the authorities.
Don’t SPAM us. No one likes SPAM, including us. When we see it, we’ll delete it and your account without a warning, and take the appropriate steps to keep you from sending it again.
Don't bring your issues with other boards to Newsarama. Please do not post negative comments about another company’s board/forum in our forums; please contact that company or organization directly. It is bad form to criticize another board/forum when representatives from that community aren’t present to respond to criticism. If we find you are doing these things, we'll warn you. After three warnings you will be suspended temporarily from Newsarama. If you do it one more time, you will be banned.
Additional Notes
The community features on Newsarama are provided as a service for a wide range of comic book and entertainment fans. It is possible that you may encounter some things that are more adult in nature, or that personally offend you. If you feel strongly enough about it, you may hit report abuse and the moderators will review and make a decision on it. Their eventual decision may or may not coincide with your wishes, so please do not take their choices personally.
Because the community is so large and active, it is impossible for us to catch everything that may contradict the community guidelines and/or Terms & Conditions. This is when the report abuse function is really helpful. Please note that you may only report abuse if you are a registered member in the community.
There are areas that are intended specifically for those 18 and older – those areas are accessible by request only (and accepted at our discretion). We’ll do our best to warn you of places containing mature content, too.
We also reserve the right to delete or edit any post for any reason whatsoever.
In some cases, your status may be altered so that your posts may be put in a moderation queue, for the administrative staff to review. Additionally, you are allowed only one account at a time, in the name of fairness. If we believe you have two (or more) accounts registered on any single community, we will choose one to remain active, and deactivate the other(s).
We hope you find these guidelines helpful. If you have questions, feel free to send a PM to doublehelix, the community manager.
