Personally, I hope this change doesn't stick.

For those saying to go read the Max book if I don't like it, if I wanted to read the Max book, I would. I want to see Frank in a universe with super heroes and villains. I think they can achieve that without cutting him to ribbons and stitching him into some sort of monster.

And I was baffled by the appearance of Morbius and Werewolf by Night as well, and hope they can explain that. I'd also like explanation on how Man Thing is there if he was recently captured in an issue of, I think, Dark Avengers.

I'm giving this turn of events a chance, but I hope its going somewhere other than "wouldn't it be awesome if Frank Castle became Frankenstein!?" close(-)

The Deadpool issue had more to do with the Gauntlet than this issue did. It has practically no ties to the story whatsoever. This is more like the Doc Ock story, in that its a failed villain trying to find their place in the world, and in the end actually having a noble purpose as opposed to trying to grab some cash.

I'm suspecting that the Gauntlet isn't actually any sort of event orchestrated by some mastermind villain so much as the brain trust is bored with trying to create new villains by putting new coats of paint on the old ones, so instead they're taking the old villains and just putting new coats of paint on them.

On a side note, I'm no physicist, but if you have a large enough power source, can electricity burn through rubber or travel along non-conductive surfaces?

On another side note, I realize that making comics tie into reality is a good thing, but I don't really like when they go dipping into politics. close(-)

I can tell you now that that's wrong. In the Thunderbolts issue, Luke is a free man, eating at a diner when he's taken by the Thunderbolts. He wasn't in a hospital bed, he wasn't in a jail cell, he wasn't locked up in Stark/Osborn/Avengers/Whatever Tower, he was free.

If I had to guess, for continuity sake: Thunderbolts story => New Avengers story => NA List story
No clue where Iron Fist ties into all of that, since I haven't been following his/their book.

Back on topic, Wolverine was okay, but not overly critical to the grand scheme of things. Osborn took nothing from it, Wolverine likely didn't have any lasting results from it, Marvel Boy didn't really have any game changing moments either. I'd never heard of Fantomex/Phantomex/whoever or the World, so it doesn't bother me a whole lot that he walked out the door with it in his pocket. close(-)

Part of what I liked about Punisher was that he was a normal guy. He didn't have super powers, or a large portion of the world's fortune. He was a normal guy with a pretty cynical view of society and access to weapons. Despite his limitations, he was always capable of holding his own against some pretty powerful foes. With the aide of Henry and Rampage before him, he did alright. Heck, he even held his own against the Sentry without getting tossed into the sun.

I didn't really like Remender's comment that he gave him a death worthy of his status. Sure he went down swinging, but he didn't take anyone with him. I'd have liked it better if he had fallen while taking down some of those resurrected villains, but instead, he goes out being cut to ribbons by Daken's claws. Problem is, he'll never get revenge for that. Daken is too close to the top tier now to even have a chance of getting wasted by Punisher.

Now, he's a monster. I'm sure there's some symbolism there, but that doesn't make for a good story. Instead, we're treated to what will be six issues of a nearly brain dead Frank running around as a super powered monster, fighting monster hunters. At the end of this arc, or one near after, Frank and his monster friends will find whatever relic they're looking for that will magically turn Frank into something resembling normal. By then, I suspect that a lot of people will have fled the book, which will go into hiding for a while, until someone else digs it back up and we forget this ever happened. Kind of like what happened last time they tried to change the direction of the Punisher books.

And I don't agree with the logic that another Punisher book is doing good things, so let's shift gears and do something different here. That would be like having Wacker say that he likes Bendis's work on Ultimate Spidey, so he's going to make 616 Spidey fly and shoot lasers out of his eyes, so they aren't treading similar ground.

I'll give Frankencastle a chance, but I ain't happy about it. close(-)
