Sheldon Dorf, Comic-Con International Founder Dies

The founder of Comic-Con International, Sheldon Dorf, passed away in a hospital in San Diego on Tuesday November 3, 2009 of kidney failure. He had been hospitalized for about a year due to complications of diabetes, according to the AP.
Dorf started Comic-Con as the Golden State Comic Book Convention in 1970. The show transformed from a one-day event to the four-day 125,000 attendee multimedia explosion that we know today. Dorf stayed well connected in the comic book industry, even while eventually becoming estranged with the convention he founded after 15 years of directly running it.
He is survived by his brother.
