Creator Stephen
Buell has provided Newsarama with the first 22 pages of Video:
the Collected Edition, which pulls together all five issues
of the original miniseries from Lost in the Dark Press together with
updated and improved artwork, a cover gallery, concept and design
sketches, and a host of other features. Due in stores next Wednesday,
November 22nd, the trade will run 152 pages and carry a $12.95 price
tag.
As for what it's about if this is your first time encountering it?
Simple, and summed up by the trade's first line: "So, Jesus came
back."
We spoke with Buell last
year while Video was coming out, and here's how
he described the series.
“The story of Video, like a lot of stuff that's
come out in the last three years, sort of developed in the whole post
9/11 world,” said Buell of his comic. “Specifically, how
the media reacted to a Big Event, and, subsequently, how that played
out in the real world. So I tried to think of a Big Event, and figured,
what bigger event could there be than the Second Coming? Especially
considering how much other religions are in the public consciousness
these days; the story about how other religions are ‘infiltrating’
our shopping malls during the holiday season comes to mind, and, obviously,
the raised public awareness, for good or for bad, of Islamic culture
since 9/11.
“But all that is the direct result of the media and its influence
on what we know or what they want us to know. So, I wanted to explore
how people would react to a Big Event, if that Big Event was the
media itself, and, hence, Jesus makes his announcement via all forms
of video communication. But, first and foremost, my goal was to
make a kick-ass story, but you have to start somewhere, and that's
where it started for me.”
