DC Comics May 2005 Highlights

That time already? Yep – that time. DC has released its solicitations for its May releases, and while they’re up in full at www.dccomics.com, we’ve cherry-picked a little, highlighting some of the bigger events and other might misses.

And no, there isn’t really any rhyme or reason as to why some solicitations have the editors listed and others don’t.

We guess.

Anyway - onward:

Didja know? There’s a Batman movie coming up? May sees the advance solicitation for the Batman Begins adaptation, written by Scott Beatty, with art by Kilian Plunkett & Serge LaPointe. The solicitation reads:

Batman Begins explores the origins of the Batman legend and the Dark Knight’s emergence as a force for good in Gotham. In the wake of his parents’ murder, disillusioned industrial heir Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) travels the world seeking the means to fight injustice  and turn fear against those who prey on the fearful.  He returns to Gotham and unveils his alter ego: Batman, a masked crusader who uses his strength, intellect and an array of high-tech deceptions to fight the sinister forces that threaten the city.

This thrilling comics adaptation of the Warner Bros. Pictures movie is brought to you by veteran Batman writer Scott Beatty (BATGIRL: YEAR ONE) and artists Kilian Plunkett (SUPERMAN: RED SON) & Serge LaPointe!
Advance-solicited; on sale June 22 • Prestige Format 64 pg, FC, $6.99 US Edited by Jaye Gardner

As he previously revealed in an interview with Newsarama.com, Sean Murphy will draw while Bruce Jones will write Year One: Batman/Scarecrow, the first issue of the two issue prestige format miniseries hits in May.

That sweet solicit reads:

Writer Bruce Jones (Hulk) makes his DCU debut, teaming with red-hot newcomer Sean Murphy and cover artists Zach Howard & Jay Leisten for a 2-issue series delving into the background of one of the Dark Knight’s most fearsome foes!

Think you know everything there is to know about the Scarecrow and his origin? Think again! YEAR ONE: BATMAN/SCARECROW goes back to the very beginning, to Jonathan Crane’s birth and questionable lineage, and follows his story up to his first appearance taking on Batman and Robin! A trail of death and straw leads the Dynamic Duo in a race to identify and stop Gotham’s newest serial killer, but the demons that shaped the Scarecrow aren’t so easily revealed!
