Marvel Comics are busy, busy these days. Friday afternoon they revealed the post-Brian Bendis/Mark Bagley creative team for their Marvel-movie-friendly title Avengers Assemble, beginning with November's issue #8.
It's writer Kelly Sue DeConnick and artist Stefano Caselli. But it's the debut of another woman on the Avengers team that might be the most intriguing piece of this news.
We now know the early appearance of Thanos and then the Guardians of the Galaxy in Avengers Assemble had some relation to Marvel's plans to feature Thanos as the background villain in the Marvel's The Avengers feature film (and presumably the feature baddie in a sequel) as well as the fact the studio is launching a 2014 "Guardians of the Galaxy" film. Could Marvel be signaling plans to feature Spider-Woman in a future film, perhaps "The Avengers 2", or as the star of the just-announced Marvel movie-universe TV series Joss Whedon will oversee?
Spider-Man's film/live-action rights belong to Sony of course and Spider-Woman isn't really a member of that cast of characters. Could Marvel Studios pull an end-around to feature a Spider-character in their own cinematic Universe, either on the big screen or small by brining in ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Jessica Drew?
Could be worth monitoring...
