DC Comics has announced a series of random new projects and bits of news for October shipping comics over the last few days. Here’s a brief run-down.
- Justice League #13 will re-introduce The Cheetah to the New 52 DCU. The issue kicks off a two-issue arc by Geoff Johns and guest artist Tony S. Daniel.
“Tony and I will be re-introducing one of DC's iconic villains - the Cheetah - and uncovering her mysterious connection to Wonder Woman and the Justice League,” said Geoff Johns. “For me, the Cheetah is up there with Black Manta, Sinestro and Captain Cold as one of the most iconic villains in the DC Universe, and she'll become a major villainous force in 2012 and beyond. The fallout from Justice League #12 starts here as we head towards next year's Trinity War.”
- Joe Kubert Presents is a six-issue anthology mini-series debuting in October. According to DC, the inaugural issue spans 48 pages and includes a Hawkman story written and illustrated by Kubert, an Angel and The Ape story from writer/artist Brian Buniak, and a return to comics for writer/artist Sam Glanzman with a U.S.S. Stevens story.
“I've been given the privilege to design the kind of comic book that I would enjoy reading and one in which I'd like to participate,” Kubert said. “This is it. I'll be doing Hawkman, Spit, The Redeemer, Sgt. Rock and The Biker in this 6-issue anthology.”
- DC also announced the next 5-issue DC Universe Presents arc, featuring the debut of both Black Lightning and Blue Devil to the New 52.
Written by Marc Andreyko and illustrated by Robson Rocha, the publisher says the story arc asked the question: “can two very different heroes keep it together without killing each other long enough to unlock a new corner of the DC Universe?”
“I can't begin to explain how excited I am to be writing this book!” Andreyko said. “When I first heard the high-concept, I was instantly writing scenes in my head. I've always been a fan of the ‘buddy concept,’ especially when it's love/hate, and teaming these two seemingly disparate characters together makes for some great story dynamics. How did Blue Devil and Black Lightning meet? Why are they working together? Do they even like each other? All … well, ok, some … will be answered. Add in a bloodthirsty bad guy, a crazy drug, a guy in a demon suit and another who shoots electricity, mix well. Now enjoy!”
