Stan Lee, Stan Lee, Does whatever a Spider Can.
Yes, that's right, folks, Stan Lee is a playable character in The Amazing Spider-Man, Activision's upcoming video game that serves as a direct sequel to the film of the same name. The game, releasing one week ahead of the film's July 3rd opening, is available now for pre-order, a condition for Stan "The Man" as a player-controlled Spider-powered hero.
If you pre-order the game for Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, releasing on June 26, 2012, at Amazon.com, you will receive a special mission where you'll play as Stan Lee, the co-creator of Spider-Man. Stan will have Spidey's spectacular, amazing, web of powers, web-slinging through Manhattan in a race to collect pages of a comic book script. A "special surprise" celebrating Spider-Man's 50th anniversary awaits fans who finish the mission, and the press release announcing the extra mission and character promises Stan Lee's "witty banter" will punctuate the gameplay for true believers.
Gamers pre-ordering The Amazing Spider-Man from Gamestop retail stores will unlock a playable character as well, The Rhino. In "The Rhino Challenge," players will rampage through Manhattan, destroying everything in their way.
But sorry, Gamestop... STAN LEE.
Looks like Amazon wins this round.
No word yet on whether both of these missions will later be available as downloadable content for the public at large, but that is usually the case with pre-order exclusives, especially those that bring extra characters into the mix.
