Ghostbusters 3 in the Works
After what seems to be years (okay, decades) of rumors and stories, a third Ghostbusters film is in the works, this according to The Hollywood Reporter. As the trade reports, the film will be something that’s become popular with other franchises such as Batman, James Bond, and most recently Superman – that is, a reboot. Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, writer/producers of NBC’s The Office have signed on to write the film for Sony. Reportedly, the new version will restart the franchise (both in the film world and for Sony), with possible involvement from the original cast members, though the original cast would not be in major roles in the new film. Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd is named as being “aware” of the project and involved in its development.
As we have reported, the property has been seeing a resurgence of interest recently, with both manga and comic book versions planned, as well as a videogame. The two Ghostbusters movies grossed more than half a billion dollars worldwide for Sony in box office returns, and hundreds of millions more in DVD and associated merchandise sales.
