Update: Sacrifice and John Carter: The Gods of Mars writer Sam Humphries is joining Jonathan Hickman on Ultimate Comics Ultimates starting with May's issue #10, as announced on Marvel's latest conference call. Luke Ross will illustrate the arc.

The plan is for Humphries to transition into the spot of sole writer, similar to how Hickman took over Secret Warriors after originally co-writing it with Brian Michael Bendis. Hickman told Newsarama that he never planned on leaving Ultimates, but got an as-yet unspecified job offer he couldn't refuse.

Original story: Thursday means the third of Marvel's four "Next Big Thing" conference calls with the comic book press scheduled for this week, and per usual, the exact topic and creators scheduled to be on the line isn't yet known.

What Marvel did pass along is this cover by Kaare Andrews, which has the filename of "ULTMTS2011010" — meaning the call is almost definitely related to the Jonathan Hickman-written Ultimate Comics Ultimates title.
