DARK HORSE Goes Same-Day Digital
Dark Horse Comics will be releasing all of their single-issue comics on their "Dark Horse Digital" platform the same day the print product goes on sale, the publisher announced Wednesday. The new initiative goes in effect on Dec. 14, and makes Dark Horse — the publisher of comics including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Usagi Yojimbo and several Star Wars titles — the latest major publisher to adopt to a same-day digital release schedule across their product line. The news formalizes what looked to be inevitable — frequently, new comics have been released on Dark Horse Digital just one week after the print on-sale date. New single-issue releases sell on Dark Horse Digital for $1.99, typically $1 to $1.50 less than the print price. In January of this year, Archie Comics moved to same-day digital releases for their publishing line. DC has released their "The New 52" titles on a same-day digital schedule since their September relaunch. Marvel has been incrementally moving to same-day digital, and earlier this month announced that the move would extend to their entire line by the end of March 2012. Got a comment?
