Marvel's DESTROYERS Series by Van Lente/Hotz Canceled

Van Lente Gathers the DESTROYERS

Destroyers, a five-issue Marvel miniseries written by Fred Van Lente and illustrated by Kyle Hotz, has been canceled, the writer reported on his Twitter account.

This comes just three days after word broke that the Nick Spencer-written, Becky Cloonan-illustrated Victor Von Doom miniseries was canceled before the first issue had been released. Destroyers was announced in late August at Toronto's Fan Expo, and the first issue had not yet been solicited but was scheduled for February 2012.

On Twitter, Van Lente disclosed that Hotz had finished penciling the first two issues of Destroyers, and the decision to cancel the series was made "weeks ago." Van Lente added that he's working on an as-yet unannounced Marvel series with an artist he's "long wanted to work with."

In recent weeks, Alpha Flight (co-written by Van Lente and Greg Pak), Iron Man 2.0 and All-Winners Squad (originally solicited as an eight-issue miniseries and ended after five) have all been canceled by Marvel. Herc, also co-written by Van Lente and Pak, ends this month with issue #10.

Destoyers was to star The Thing, She-Hulk, Karkas, A-Bomb and The Beast, brought together by Golden Age character The Destroyer. Newsarama's interview with Van Lente on the series is here.
