DC's "The New 52" relaunch is now in month 2, but the publisher is still surprising readers, the latest being a new origin — and parent — for Wonder Woman.

As Monday on DC's official publicity blog The Source, in the current continuity, Wonder Woman's mother is Hippolyta and father is Zeus. This is a significant change to the character's history, who traditionally has never had a father figure and was said to be formed from mystical clay. Of upcoming developments in the series, The Source says, "the king of the gods will ensure that nothing goes as planned for his defiant daughter."

The updated origin will be revealed in November's Wonder Woman #3, the New York Post reports. The newspaper also states, "The paternity revelation is one of several DC will be dropping about their retooled characters at the New York Comic Con, which kicks off at the Javits Center on Thursday."
