The blanket storm of year and even decade-end “Top 10” lists have begun, and while Newsarama may have a few of our own over the next few weeks, we thought we’d also try a little something different this year, by asking YOU our readers to help us name Newsarama’s consensus comic book Favorites of 2009, today with Favorite ARTIST of 2009.

We asked 11 Newsarama contributors to send us their choices in 5 main comic book categories – Favorite Writer or Writing Team, Artist or Art Team, Cover, Limited Series or Original Graphic Novel, and Ongoing Series of the Year. Using a weighted system (** corrected details of our methodology can be found below) we arrived at a Top 16 Nominee list for each category. Now we’re going to ask you to pick the overall favorite, multi-round tournament style.

Just below and each day you’ll find four seeded brackets of 4 nominees, and we’ll ask you pick your favorite from each bracket. As the tournament moves on to subsequent rounds each of you will get to help choose which nominee you feel is most deserving to move into the next round, until we get to a one-on-one showdown for the overall 2009 winner.

** 11 Newsarama contributors submitted their lists for their personal Top 20 in each of the five categories. The results were tabulated using a weighted system that awarded an escalating number points according to how high the nominee appeared on the list - 20th place was worth 1 point, 19th place 2 points … up to 20 points for 1st place.

The final nominee lists are the top 16 nominees with the highest point totals in each category.

Each bracket is seeded according to point total, with the highest vote-getter in each bracket moving onto the next round.

There will be 3 total rounds for each category (the “Sweet 16”, “Final Four” and Finals) eventually resulting in one overall “Favorite of 2009”.
